Early Life

Poul Henningsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1894. He briefly studied architecture at the Technical School in Frederiksberg and the Technical College in Copenhagen but never completed a formal education. Their collaboration began in the mid-1920s, when electric lighting was rapidly becoming standard in homes. At the time, most fixtures produced harsh glare and uneven illumination. Over the following four decades they continually refined these ideas, producing lamps that remain among the most celebrated examples of Danish design.
