Verner Panton

Verner Panton (1926–1998) was a Danish designer known for his experimental approach to furniture, lighting and interior design. His work introduced bold forms, innovative materials and a distinctive use of colour to post-war Scandinavian design.

Panton studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and later worked in Arne Jacobsen’s architectural practice. He soon established his own studio and began developing furniture that challenged traditional construction methods and materials.

His best-known designs include the Panton Chair, Flowerpot lamps and Panthella lighting series. Panton worked with manufacturers such as Vitra, Louis Poulsen and &Tradition. Plastics, metal and other industrial materials allowed him to create the flowing and geometric forms that became characteristic of his work.

Verner Panton developed a visual language that stood apart from the restrained wood furniture often associated with Danish modernism.
