Poul Cadovius (1911–2011) was a Danish designer and manufacturer who played an important role in the development of modular furniture. He became best known for flexible wall-mounted storage systems that replaced traditional freestanding cabinets with lighter and more adaptable designs.
In 1948, Cadovius introduced the Royal System. Shelves and cabinets could be mounted directly onto wooden wall rails and arranged in different configurations. The concept saved floor space and allowed owners to adapt the system to their individual needs.
Cadovius continued to develop modular furniture through companies such as Cado. His designs often used teak and rosewood and combined simple construction with carefully finished details. The resulting systems could incorporate shelves, cabinets, drawers and desks within one coherent structure.
Poul Cadovius helped make modular wall furniture an important part of Danish modern design. Original systems remain popular for their flexibility, materials and architectural appearance. Explore available vintage Poul Cadovius designs in our collection.
