Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) was one of the most influential figures in Danish modern furniture design. Known for his functional approach and restrained aesthetic, Mogensen created furniture defined by clear proportions, durable materials and an emphasis on everyday use.
After studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under Kaare Klint, Mogensen became head of FDB’s furniture design studio in 1942. His work there reflected the ambition to make well-designed, practical furniture accessible to a wider audience. He later established his own studio and worked with manufacturers including Fredericia Furniture, Søborg Møbelfabrik and P. Lauritsen & Søn.
Mogensen frequently worked with natural materials such as oak, beech, leather and cane. Rather than following short-lived trends, his designs were rooted in traditional furniture types and refined through careful attention to construction, ergonomics and proportion. Notable works include the Spanish Chair, Hunting Table, J39 Chair and the 2213 Sofa.
Today, Børge Mogensen is regarded as one of the defining designers of Danish modernism. His furniture remains highly sought after for its combination of simplicity, functionality and material quality. Explore available vintage Børge Mogensen designs in our collection.
