⭐️ Svend Aage Madsen Rosewood Executive Desk for H.P. Hansen – Danish Modern Masterpiece
⭐️ This striking executive desk, designed by Svend Aage Madsen and produced by H.P. Hansen in the 1960s, is a true showcase of Danish craftsmanship. The rich rosewood grain flows beautifully across the sculpted drawers, curved desktop edges, and elegant tapered legs. Both sides of the desk are equally impressive: the front features two drawer units with a total of six drawers, each with Madsen’s signature integrated handles, while the back offers open shelving and a cabinet with a beautifully bookmatched door.
⭐️ All three original keys are present—an increasingly rare detail—and the desk comes directly from a private household in Denmark, purchased from the son of the first owner.
⭐️ Remarkable organic detailing throughout: soft curves, floating drawer units, sculptural frame, and a subtly raised lip at the back of the desktop. Marked with the original H.P. Hansen stamp and Danish furnituremakers quality label.
⭐️ Dimensions: Width: 148 cm, Height: 72 cm, Depth: 73 cm
⭐️ Condition: In very good vintage condition with minimal signs of age-related use. The rosewood shows deep, rich tones and beautifully consistent grain. The desk has been fully cleaned and checked, and the wood has been treated with a high-grade quality oil to nourish and protect the finish.

⭐️ Svend Aage Madsen Rosewood Executive Desk voor H.P. Hansen – Deens Modern Icoon
⭐️ Afmetingen: Breedte: 148 cm, Hoogte: 72 cm, Diepte: 73 cm
H.P. Hansen was a Danish furniture manufacturer based in Randers. Its surviving furniture belongs to the practical, quietly expressive side of mid-century Danish design: sideboards with sliding doors, desks designed to be seen from every angle, and storage pieces that give timber and proportion the leading roles.
The company's history is less extensively documented than its furniture. Period business directories establish its presence in Randers, while marked pieces and auction records help identify examples of its work.
A 1954 Danish trade directory lists H.P. Hansens Møbelindustri on Prins Ottos Vej in Randers. A 1969 directory records it as a limited company and names H.P. Hansen as its director. These contemporary records anchor the business in a particular place and period, but do not establish when it was founded or tell the full story of its workshop.
The furniture most readily documented today dates from the mid-twentieth century, especially the 1960s. Period directories and surviving pieces offer a firmer account of the company than retrospective claims about its beginnings.
Rather than setting out a recorded company manifesto, the furniture itself suggests an approach to design. Teak surfaces, shaped edges and slender legs give substantial storage pieces a lighter appearance. Sliding doors keep the fronts composed while making room for shelves, drawers and, in some examples, fitted interior compartments.
H.P. Hansen desks show a similar concern for furniture in use. Some have storage on both sides of the working position and a finished rear with open shelving or a cabinet. Their details make them more than surfaces for writing: they are carefully considered pieces for a room.
Svend Åge Madsen is the designer most consistently associated with H.P. Hansen in the available records. Auction catalogues attribute desks and a sideboard to Madsen and identify H.P. Hansen Møbelindustri as their maker. His name is also written Svend Aage Madsen.
Other designer attributions appear in vintage listings, but they are not always accompanied by period catalogues or comparable documentation. A manufacturer's mark can establish who made a piece without necessarily identifying who designed it; those two questions are worth keeping separate.
The company's sideboards are among its most recognisable surviving works. Documented examples include teak cabinets with broad sliding-door fronts, interior shelving and drawers. One auction catalogue identifies a teak-veneered sideboard attributed to Madsen as model 32; the model designation is useful, though it comes here from an auction record rather than a retrieved period catalogue.
Freestanding desks form another visible part of H.P. Hansen's output. Examples attributed to Madsen combine drawers with storage accessible from the back, allowing the furniture to stand away from a wall without presenting an unfinished side.
H.P. Hansen's place in Danish Modern is best understood through the furniture that remains, not through an undocumented account of the firm's influence. Its sideboards and desks continue to be identified in specialist inventories and auction catalogues, preserving evidence of the manufacturer's work in Randers.
They also illustrate an enduring strength of Danish cabinet furniture: useful storage can be visually restrained without being impersonal. Where labels, stamps or reliable catalogues survive, they make that appreciation more precise by connecting an individual piece to its maker.
