Skovmand & Andersen was one of Denmark's respected cabinetmakers during the golden age of Scandinavian modern design. Active throughout the mid-twentieth century, the company became particularly known for producing finely crafted dining tables that combined practical functionality with the restrained elegance characteristic of Danish furniture. Although less widely recognised than some of the era's largest manufacturers, Skovmand & Andersen earned a reputation for exceptional woodworking, thoughtful engineering and a consistently high standard of craftsmanship.

Origins

Founded in Denmark during the post-war expansion of the country's furniture industry, Skovmand & Andersen specialised in the production of dining furniture at a time when Danish design was gaining international acclaim. The company focused on quality rather than mass production, working with carefully selected hardwoods and employing traditional cabinetmaking techniques that reflected Denmark's long woodworking heritage.

Their furniture was exported throughout Europe and beyond, contributing to the international success of Danish Modern during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

Design Philosophy

Many models incorporate one or two extension leaves, allowing a compact circular or oval table to comfortably accommodate larger gatherings. The extension systems are integrated with remarkable precision, preserving the visual harmony of the design whether the table is closed or fully extended.

Their dining tables remain particularly sought after today for their combination of elegant proportions, robust construction and everyday usability.

Lasting Influence

Although Skovmand & Andersen never achieved the same international name recognition as manufacturers such as Fritz Hansen, Haslev or Johannes Andersen's collaborators, the quality of their work has ensured a lasting reputation among collectors and enthusiasts of Danish Modern furniture.

Today, original Skovmand & Andersen tables continue to be valued for their timeless design, excellent craftsmanship and durable construction. Carefully restored examples demonstrate why Danish furniture from this period remains so highly regarded: understated in appearance, meticulously made and designed to serve generations of everyday use without losing its elegance.

Within the Netherlands, delivery is arranged through a selection of trusted partners, including Brenger, as well as local couriers when appropriate. For international deliveries, I work with Magic Movers, a specialist in transporting vintage and design furniture across Europe.

For these items, you'll see "Local Pickup or Courier" as the available delivery option during checkout. Courier costs are not calculated automatically, as they depend on the destination and the size of the item. Once your order has been placed, I'll get in touch with you to discuss the available transport options and provide a quotation before anything is arranged.
