Rosewood Planter, Edmund Jørgensen, Denmark, 1960s
Produced by Edmund Jørgensen in Denmark during the 1960s, this freestanding planter reflects the restrained elegance that characterises Scandinavian interior design of the period. Elevated on four slender, tapered legs, the rectangular planter appears to float lightly above the floor, giving the piece an architectural presence despite its modest proportions.
The exterior is finished in richly figured rosewood veneer, carefully arranged to create a rhythmic sequence of mirrored grain across the front. Dramatic dark figuring contrasts with the warm reddish-brown tones of the timber, while the gently curved end panels soften the otherwise crisp geometry. The slim solid rosewood edging and precisely mitred corners demonstrate the high level of cabinetmaking associated with Danish production from this period.
Inside, the original galvanised metal liner remains in place, providing a practical planting compartment while protecting the wooden construction. Equally suitable for indoor plants or as a decorative interior object, the planter functions as both furniture and architectural accent.
The planter has been carefully cleaned, fully inspected and professionally restored in our workshop. The rosewood has been treated with a high-quality furniture oil, enriching the depth and contrast of the veneer while preserving its natural patina. It remains in excellent vintage condition with only honest signs of age and use consistent with its history. The original Edmund Jørgensen manufacturer’s label is retained beneath the planter.
