Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007) was one of the most important Danish furniture designers of the 20th century. He became especially known for his chairs, which combine traditional craftsmanship with simple forms and carefully considered proportions.
Wegner trained as a cabinetmaker before studying furniture design in Copenhagen. This practical background strongly influenced his work. He understood wood as both a structural and expressive material and often made construction details an important part of the design.
Throughout his career, Wegner worked with manufacturers such as Carl Hansen & Søn, PP Møbler, Getama and Andreas Tuck. His best-known designs include the Wishbone Chair, Round Chair, CH25 lounge chair and CH33 dining chair. Many of these designs remain in production today.
Hans J. Wegner created hundreds of furniture designs during his career. His work helped define Danish modern design internationally and continues to influence contemporary furniture. Explore available vintage Hans J. Wegner designs in our collection.
