Wall System with Nisse Strinning Teak Shelves, Scandinavia, 1960s

A modular wall-mounted shelving system combining eight teak shelves with slender black metal wall ladders. The shelves are original Nisse Strinning / String shelves, executed in warm teak with a clearly visible grain and slim solid edging. Their relatively compact proportions give the system a light appearance, while the black metal structure keeps the overall design open and architectural.

The set consists of eight shelves, three 80 cm wall ladders and three 60 cm wall ladders. One of the shorter ladders is not shown in the current configuration but is included, allowing the system to be arranged in several different ways. The shelves are attached with their original metal fittings and brass-coloured hardware. The precise origin of the wall ladders has not been confirmed; while they work naturally with the String shelves, they are therefore not described as original String components.

The set is in good vintage condition with normal signs of use consistent with its age. One shelf was shortened slightly at one end at some point in its history. This alteration sits against the wall when installed and is consequently barely noticeable in normal use. See last picture.

Een modulair wandrek bestaande uit acht teakhouten planken en slanke zwart metalen wandstaanders. De planken zijn originele Nisse Strinning / String planken, uitgevoerd in warm teak met een duidelijk zichtbare nerf en smalle massieve randen. Door de compacte afmetingen van de planken en het fijne metalen frame oogt het systeem licht en ruimtelijk.

De set bestaat uit acht planken, drie wandstaanders van 80 cm hoog en drie wandstaanders van 60 cm hoog. Eén van de korte staanders is niet gebruikt in de huidige opstelling, maar wordt wel meegeleverd. Hierdoor kan het systeem op verschillende manieren worden opgebouwd. De planken zijn voorzien van hun metalen bevestigingen en messingkleurig beslag. De precieze herkomst van de wandstaanders is niet bevestigd; hoewel ze goed aansluiten bij de String-planken worden deze daarom niet als originele String-onderdelen omschreven.

De set verkeert in goede vintage staat met normale gebruikssporen passend bij de leeftijd. Van één plank is in het verleden aan één zijde een klein gedeelte afgezaagd. Deze zijde bevindt zich tegen de muur wanneer de plank gemonteerd is en de aanpassing is daardoor tijdens normaal gebruik nauwelijks zichtbaar. Te zien op de laatste foto.
